Weapons and armor are both survival tools and economic decisions. Official material confirms that stronger weapons and tougher armor can be forged to reach deeper dungeon areas, while the full release expands the available arsenal.
Confirmed role
Equipment increases the player's ability to survive deeper floors, reach new biomes, and return with rarer loot. Because resources can also become fixtures or sale stock, every gear craft competes with another form of progression.
Observed weapon types
Official screenshots and demo coverage show sword-like weapons and hammer or mace-style options. A third-party demo test found a stun-focused hammer particularly strong with healing on hit. The full category list and exact item names need live verification.
Choose for the threat
Wide control can help against skeleton groups, while ranged Necromancers in the Darkest Dungeon may punish slow commitments. Bosses may require a different balance. Compare reach, speed, control, damage, defense, and replacement cost rather than one headline statistic.
Craft or sell
A weapon may be an upgrade, a backup, Quest Board material, or shelf inventory. Consider current demand, shop prestige, decoration bonuses, and whether losing the item would block the next expedition before placing it for sale.
Inventory patch warning
Demo 2.0.1 fixed whole stacks of swords and armor disappearing when put on sale. Old reports of missing rack inventory may describe that bug rather than intended equipment behavior.
Catalog fields still needed
Exact names, recipes, damage, speed, range, stun, armor values, rarity, durability, repair, sockets or perks, sale price, demand, unlock source, and loss-on-death rules remain pending. Every future numeric table should show its build date.
